Players of Rift, the MMORPG developed by Trion Worlds, have banded together to help promote the game through a contest asking people to design housing in the game – specifically the contest covers making cave and cavern housing.
Gamigo US Inc. took over management of the game in October 2018 and players have since been attempting to get the attention of the publisher to help fix and expand parts of Rift to keep it in better shape.
One of the best parts of Rift is its expansive housing system, called dimensions, where players gain access to an entire instance specialized for the development and deployment of whatever they want.
To draw attention to the game, and drum up support for making things happen, a contest has been published on the official forums Dec. 6, 2019 and closes on Feb. 28, 2020.
“Caves, caverns, grottoes, bunkers, underground rivers or houses, rock overhangs, you name it, it’s all good,” Refuge wrote outlining the rules of the contest. “Well… I’m trying to sound inclusive here, but we also have to appreciate that a cave is still essentially a cave!”
So, what do people need to do in order to be part of the contest? The build must be a cavern (as mentioned) and must make the visitor feel like they’re underground or under a rock overhang, or create a scene where a cavern is an important focus of the build. Of course, a dimension key that has a cave-like feature such as Dream Hive, Icewatch, Harrow Crypt, and similar.
Successful contributions to the contest will use the cavern feature as the focal point of the build, making use of either natural or “man-made” caverns to create the effect.
“The wow factor should be linked to the cave feature itself and not elsewhere. For example; a beautiful waterfall with a mediocre cave further afield will probably not score brilliantly. But a beautiful waterfall within the cave or covering the cave will!”
First Prize includes five Rex, a Celestial Bundle of Dye Buckets, Telara Chronicles (all five editions), and imagining that you have an island named after you in Rift 2023. Second Prize includes three Rex and a Celestial Bundle. Finally, Third Prize is two Rex and a Celestial Bundle. Finally, the three runners-up will receive one Rex apiece.
Only new builds will be accepted, open to all servers both EU and US regions, and only one entry per person. Multiplayer builds and guild dimensions are permitted, but prizes will only go to the player who submitted (they will have to determine how to split up the prize for groups).
