Video games are big business. So is covering those games. The games we play and how we talk about them says a lot about us as a culture. More to the point, it also says a lot about other people and their cultures. The University of Iowa has recently put together a class that teaches students how to understand and write about video gaming culture. Game Politics has the story.
Now all we need is a class on proper game design theory and practice and we’ll almost have a tenth of a training your average film school student sees. Still, games have a major potential for being part of the human experience in the future. It’s vital to see our learning institutions preparing people for that.
