The Borg represent one of the most fearsome enemies in all of Star Trek, however, they’re a bit tamer in Cryptic Studio’s Star Trek Online and have become one of the most common enemies to get blown out of space.

In a recent blog post, Cryptic announced the Borg Resurgence event campaign starting Feb. 22 and ending March 15 that will reward players with a Dispersing Nanoprobe Assimilator after successful completion of 14 days’ worth of progress. (Although it appears, at least on PC, the campaign has already started early.)

To participate, players can fly in one of two space task force operations, Infected: The Conduit and Khitomer Vortex, or one ground operation, Into the Hive. Upon completion, there is the standard 20-hour timer before another one can be completed.

The new “Resurgence” campaign will be remastering these events but players will be able to run them on normal difficulty. So, no need to run advanced or elite (however, those difficulties would give better rewards).

One benefit of this event having Infected in the list is that players often use this particular space TFO as a way to test out their builds to optimize for massive outgoing damage. This means that, at least in the beginning, many groups will discover that it will go rather swiftly.

As for the reward, the Dispersing Nanoprobe Assimilator is a console that gives captains the ability to launch Borg nanoprobes at enemies. Once dispersed they splash out in a 3km area and inflict plasma damage over time, leaving a hazardous area, any vessel that is destroyed in the area will be infected with nanoprobes and is assimilated into a friendly AI-controlled vessel for a time. That vessel will then attempt to tractor enemy vessels and ram them resulting in a massive warp-core explosion. Up to 10 enemies can be assimilated this way per activation.

It is also a universal console and once installed will increase the maximum hull and boost control expertise.

As usual, this reward is account-wide and can be reclaimed by any character once received after the campaign event is completed.
