The enterprising reporters at Game Informer have gotten their hands-on gameplay footage from the newly announced Magic: Legends upcoming MMO based on the Magic: The Gathering card game from Wizards of the Coast developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment.

The video game was first announced during last year’s The Game Awards, but the studios involved have been very tight-lipped about details until now.

The trailer, which you can look at below, is mostly pre-alpha gameplay so keep that in mind when watching the action. The music is epic and the isometric environments and gameplay put it solidly in the Diablo-like universe of games.

The trailer gives a fairly good idea of the direction of the game and shows what we expect are Planeswalkers roaming through different environments.

We also get to see them take directly to the field, which isn’t something we’re used to in the M:tG canon, and crush enemies with devastating magic.

So far, it looks more or less in the same vein as an isometric Diablo-like ARPG MMO. There’s little indication of mana or ability cards involved — which eschews much of the gameplay of the card game itself — but it could draw instead on the vast lore that the game has built up under the vision of Wizards of the Coast.

Looking forward to more details on this title, keep it tuned here and we’ll keep everyone appraised.
