New Year’s Eve day brings on a new Kickstarter with It Is Nice When It Snows developed by Concano Games – a wintry tale that puts players in the position of playing a snowball in a 2D platformer.

The game combines a puzzle platformer with a magical, winter story about a snowman who is obliterated by a winter wind and all that’s left is a snowball.

In order to solve these puzzles, the snowball slowly gains a repertoire of skills including changing size, jumping, splitting in two, pressing switches, and pushing objects. The snowball increases weight as it rolls over snowy ground, this is useful because a heavy snowball can more readily trigger pressure plates and destroy obstacles; at the same time, a smaller snowball can fit into small holes and under low branches.

The environments themselves will pose dangers including brambles that kill, fireballs – the world is treacherous yet beautiful.

The graphics take influences from games such as Valiant Hearts, Machinarium, Darkest Dungeon with a mixture of Tim Burton’s work such as Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride as well as from the works of Laika such as The Boxtrolls and Coraline.

Concano Games is a game development studio in Santander, Spain and founded in 2015. The studio is made up of a team of three people: CEO Samuel Lopez, artist Carlos Perez, and programmer Balthasar Payno. Together, the team has published two other games Freestyle Battle Cards and Space Lightbox.

The studio is seeking $28,010 in the Kickstarter and still has 33 days left.
