Standing Stone Games, the current developer of Dungeons & Dragons Online, today announced that the MMORPG game will be upgrading soon to a 64-bit client, which is currently in beta.

“The DDO game client can now be optionally run in 64-bit, which can improve game performance,” Cordovan, a community manager, posted a quote in the DDO forums. “By default, players will continue to run the 32-bit client unless they change the option in the launcher. This selection can be changed again if desired.”

The 64-bit beta client itself became available today after the MMORPG’s servers came back online after the official update to pave the way for its use.

As mentioned above, choosing the 64-bit client is as simple as a setting within the launcher. According to Standing Stone Games, the new client will include its own separate set of preferences, graphics settings, hotkeys, and such.

“A separate set of client preferences (userpreferences.ini) for the 64-bit client will be created to allow players to have different graphics settings for the different clients if desired,” Cordovan added. “Players can select the 64-bit client, or switch back to the 32-bit client, by pressing the Options tab in the game launcher, then finding the selector in the General tab.”

The addition of the 64-bit client is part of Update 45, which also launched “The Age of the Alchemist,” and included the introduction of the Alchemist class.

Alchemists create magical mixtures to create powerful arcane spells and coat their weapons with vile toxins. As a result, they are an arcane caster class who sling spells and can use melee effectively similar to rogues. An Alchemist can also benefit from buffs that trigger from casting spells of certain Primer colors in sequence.

The Alchemist class is free for VIP and Season Pass holders and currently available in the DDO store.
