It Wouldn’t Be a Video Game Exhibition Without Someone Complaining

The nation’s foremost museum, the Smithsonian, is presently putting on an exhibition entitled, “The Art of Video Games.” This show features some of the best works of gaming, as well as some of the most popular. This exhibition represents a huge milestone on the road to gaming becoming accepted in popular culture, and so, of course, someone has to whine about it. NPR has the story.

Yes, yes, 119,000 people voted entirely the wrong way about what games they want to see in the show. Yes, it’s all very American Idol. How else do you think the Smithsonian is going to get people interested in this exhibition? Excluding people from taking part in an exploration of an interactive medium doesn’t seem like the way to go.
