The Mortal Kombat movie was, perhaps, the first video game movie that was actually any good. It wasn’t a cinematic masterpiece, but the movie was fun and just as importantly, it was Mortal Kombat. The key idea was that they weren’t making a movie of the video game. Rather, they were making a movie of the same story the video game was made from. I liked the Mortal Kombat movie. It was realistic in the fighting, spooky in the weirdness, and properly silly when the comic book moments came into play. Good times.
