Because we really don’t get enough hardcore gangsta astrophysicist rap in our day. Here’s his take on Grand Theft Auto 3.
Blizzard has really stepped up their game with the animation quality on the new Pandaren characters. Check out this video of emotes and spellcasting animations from the Mists of Pandaria beta.
The folks over at GameOgre.com recently asked me to take a look into the free-to-play MOBA style game, Heroes of Newerth. Here is what I discovered, between bouts of being horribly murdered by an obese corpse.
DC Universe Online has introduced their Saint Patrick’s Day event by using a lesser-known impish character named Mister Mxyzptik. He first appeared to annoy Superman in Metropolis and existed primarily as a humorous, comedy effect character. Hailing from the 5th Dimension he spread mirth and mayhem using his powers, called Superman names, and required the Man of Steel to get Mxy to say his own name backwards.
A few episodes of the animated series and editions of the comics feature Mxyzptik. He is about as close to a leprechaun that DC Comics gets and thus he’s perfect to celebrate the holiday in game.

This has nothing to do with gaming, gaming culture, virtual reality, or technology in general. It is, however, too weird to go unremarked. There are cats in it.
The Valentine’s Day event in DC Universe Online apparently caught wide regard as a terrible event (and we agree) as a result, Sony Online Entertainment decided to redo it. However, they failed to finish sprucing it up for this year’s February 14th.
As a result: They skipped it.
No matter, MMO Anthropology decided to speak on the matter anyway. Once again, coming to you live from inside DC Universe Online is a discussion of why the Valentine’s Day event failed and why it’s not in the game currently.

Blizzard took to holidays like a fish to water and Valentine’s Day is no different. World of Warcraft has been running their wonderful–although sometimes aggravating–”Love is in the Air Festival” where players can grind a boss fight, or just through mobs to generate gifts for the Horde or Alliance leaders in order to show their affection with little pink cards. I wonder what the Dark Lady feels about this particular custom. If you’re interested, MMO Anthropology has the story.
Trion Worlds, the developer of Rift: The Planes of Telara, has officially announced that they game will be going free-to-play for levels 1-20. This is similar to when Blizzard opened up World of Warcraft for levels 1-10 (now -20) free as well, but with massive restrictions. Rift is far less restricted and makes a game certainly worth its merits. Interested? Then check out MMO Anthropology, they have the story.
With patch 1.1, Star Wars: the Old Republic discovered that faction imbalance can really wreck open-world PvP and by offering incentives for players to play open-world, but without a mechanism that permits regrouping really amplifies the problem. As a result, BioWare discovered with SWtOR culture that some things come with unintended consequences.
As a relatively new property, SWtOR is still growing up.

Ever wonder where captchas come from? These days, they’re usually part of a massive online project to digitize books, one word at a time. This talk from the TED conference shows the power of the internet when organized for massive collaborative projects. It can even make 4chan useful.
