The video game world has suffered a downturn lately, and no one felt the sting of a contracting market more than Activision Blizzard and their MMORPG, World of Warcraft. As the recession slowed sales, aging content and competition from emerging games has shattered Warcraft’s player base, dropping the giant down to a dismal 10.2 million subscribers. While this subscriber base remains larger than the population of many first-world countries, expected revenue fell to a mere 4.5 billion dollars for the 2012 financial year. Reuters has the story.
