World of Warcraft Movie Loses Sam Raimi, Angels Weep

Posted by | July 18, 2012

Way back in the mists of time, Blizzard announced they’d put together a deal for a World of Warcraft movie with Sam Raimi as the director and Robert Rodat of “Saving Private Ryan” for the writer. This was a dream team, and possibly the best chance for a decent Warcraft movie we could ever get. Time does not wait for anyone, however, and Sam Raimi has left the project to work on another movie. While the Warcraft movie is still in production, and a new director has been found, the identity of that director is a mystery. GameSpot has the story.

Personally, I’d like to see Kevin Smith on the project, largely because a couple orcs throwing around irrelevant conversation while slaughtering through the Barrens is exactly how the game plays. Add in a few wacky one-note side characters and a brief journey into a deeper understanding and you’re good to go. Warcraft even has Star Wars references built-in.
