We have been longtime fans of the TV shows SG-1 and Atlantis that when it was announced—some time ago—that there would be a Stargate MMO (Stargate Worlds) we were rather excited. That excitement, of course, has begun to wane as the eventual release date continues to become more eventual.

Originally it appeared to be slated for release (or at least beta, although that does seem to be happening very soon) in the last quarter of 2008; now the date seems to have moved back to a release date sometime in 2009. To add insult to injury the teaser trailer leave much to be desired about what they intend to throw into the game.

We have signed up for the beta, of course, but haven’t received notice if we’re part of it or not. But, if we do get into the beta there will be a review series for our readers. We intend to grab ourselves an Asgard because they’re the only race in the game who come with a pet (a drone) and we love pets.

In the future, crossing the cosmic and spectacular expanse of space instantaneously becomes a reality. This amazing feat is accomplished with the discovery of apparatuses known simply as a Stargates which generate artificial wormholes, tearing a void through time and space. One such Stargate is found on Earth, subjecting the vulnerable blue planet to an invasion by a brutal and intelligent snake-like alien race bent on galactic domination and known as the Goa’uld. To counter this looming threat, a top-secret military base called SGC (Stargate Command) is built, and from it the first of many hand-picked teams (SG-1) is formed. Jumping across the universe, they form alliances and track down alien technology to aid in the defense of our world from the threat of alien incursion. Who will you ally with when the fate of the universe is put to the test?
