Let’s face it, transforming robots are something of a niche product. A video game based around transforming robots is even more so. That’s why High Moon Studios has chosen to make Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, as a pulse-pounding action game first, which just happens to be about transforming robots. Check out this hands-on look at the upcoming game, from the perspective of an ordinary, non-fan gamer. GameInformer has the story.

One of the dangers of licensed properties, especially ones with a long history, is that the developer will shut out anyone who isn’t a fan. Obscure characters, stifling canon, and a reliance on the license to make up for shortfalls in the quality of the product are all ways to drive away any newcomers to the scene. War for Cybertron seems to be avoiding this pitfalls, which should net it a considerable number of players beyond the Transformer fandom. That can only be a good thing.
