If you didn’t see this coming, you’re not alone. President of Sony Online Entertainment Jack Smedley appeared on Reddit to announce that Sony Online Entertainment is breaking away from Sony and renaming itself Daybreak Game Company. Aside from the aforementioned Reddit post, SOE also posted on the PlanetSide 2 forums.
According to statements, SOE has been acquired by Columbus Nova, an entertainment and technology investment firm.
“This means that effective immediately SOE will operate as an independent game development studio,” says the announcement. “Where we will continue to focus on creating exceptional online games for players around the world.”
Smedley will remain president of the new company and the new website for SOE will be available at www.DaybreakGameCompany.com.
