Most robots are hard-shelled beasts, but some progress is being made with soft robots composed of artificial muscle and tubes instead of metal. One soft robot is the Meshworm, a creature built much like an ordinary earthworm. Maybe the Meshworm isn’t the speediest robot around, but it is tough, and can survive a good beating with a hammer. It also serves as a showcase for artificial muscle technology, which could be a big help in creating that ultimate cyborg body we all want.
Okay, maybe it doesn’t look like much, but this critter is still very cool. One of the best things it has going is silence, the Meshworm makes no noise when it moves. Normal robot motors are loud and thumpy, too noisy to keep around. A silent robot is a lot more friendly in the house. Oh, and ultimate cyborg robot body. That’s a thing.
