A report is circulating right now that YouTubers looking to review the new game, Shadow of Mordor, were required by Warner Bros’ PR firm to stipulate to positive reviews in return for receiving a review copy.

As reported in MCV, the initial understanding of this deal came from a video by Jim Sterling and was also reported by YouTube personality TotalBiscuit.

  • Maximise awareness for the game during the ‘week of vengeance’
  • Persuade viewers to purchase game
  • Not show bugs or glitches that may exist
  • Discuss the story
  • Include discussion of the Nemesis system – “this really should take up the bulk of the focus, such as how different the orcs are, how vivid their personalities are” etc.

Reviewers were also told not to discuss the Lord of the Rings movies or The Hobbit; and would stipulate to “promote positive sentiment about the game.
