Project STEAM Gets Kids Into Video Game Design, Robotics, the Future

Posted by | July 29, 2012

The best way to chart the course of the future is to make it yourself. These days, it looks like the future is going to be video games and robots. That’s where Project STEAM comes in. Project STEAM is a summer camp devoted to technology and design. The purpose behind it is to bring kids into real hands-on contact with the technology that will build the future. Like, say, designing and programming video games. At seven years old. New Paltz Times has the story.

Project STEAM has nothing to do with Valve’s software DRM service. That said, it’s good to see kids being challenged for a change. Too much of what we consider “for kids” is useless mush that actively discourages kids from thinking for themselves. If a kid isn’t building, questioning, playing, and experimenting, then that’s a kid who isn’t learning. Challenge a child’s limits, and you’ll soon find out they don’t really have any limits.
