Okay, the Future Can Happen Now. John Carmack Takes VR Goggles to Kickstarter

Posted by | August 1, 2012

Just to get this straight, a programming genius who pioneered the use of 3D rendering in games is using a web page for crowd-sourced funding to promote the virtual reality system he’s been building in his spare time between launching space rockets and redefining computer hardware capabilities. Now that we’re clear on all that, John Carmack of DOOM fame is up on Kickstarter looking to fund his VR goggles and he’s sending out dev kits to anyone who pledges enough. Oh, and it’s called the Oculus Rift. Check out the video in the article. Destructoid has the story.

Throwing around a Matrix reference here would be outdated and trite, so I’ll just say one thing. Finally.

We really need proper virtual reality, I can’t tell you how much we need it. This Oculus Rift system may be a real step toward that goal. This is very cool.
