Earlier reported that Google had penned a deal to buy video game livestream company Twitch.tv, just today it was announced that Amazon is the lucky bidder to win the company at $1.1 billion dollars.

According to CNN Money, Twitch receives over 55 million visitors per month and “represented a whopping 1.35% of all Internet traffic in March, according to networking company Sandvine.” This means that Twitch generated more traffic than even HBO GO.

"Being part of Amazon will let us do even more for our community. We will be able to create tools and services faster than we could have independently," said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear.

Amazon said the all-cash deal will close during the second half of 2014—and has stressed that Twitch will remain independent of the main company, keeping its branding, the same team, and the same offices.
