Minecraft Finally Hits its Release Version

Posted by | November 23, 2011

Apparently, it’s a good game? Maybe all that beta testing was worth something. Minecraft is a building game using simple graphics and simple mechanics to foster an entire world worth of things to do. Throw in a few monsters to make it interesting, and you have a game simple enough to be designed by one person, but complex enough to sell millions and create an entire subculture. Minecraft has become something of a banner for the indie movement, proof that you don’t need three-hundred people and hundreds of millions in financing to make great games. Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, the MMO Love, the tools are there for lone gamers, or better yet, small teams, to build complex, immersive games. The internet, Steam, and Xbox Live open those games to the swirling masses. The future of gaming should be interesting.
