Meet the Nintendo Gamemaster, Howard Phillips

Posted by | August 12, 2012

The early days of Nintendo’s success across gaming were a strange time. The Nintendo Entertainment System, the NES, was tearing up the sales charts, and the Big N needed a voice to reach out to gamers from their corporate doom fortress. That voice was Howard Phillips, a bowtied gamer geek who had his hands in just about everything Nintendo did in the English-speaking world. That includes playing the games. Howard claims to have beaten about 500 Nintendo games in his time with the company, earning him the title of “Gamemaster.” Meet Howard in this article from the old school. 1UP has the story.

Someone had to play all those Nintendo games, at least in theory. There’s a few I’m not so sure about. Still, that’s an awful lot of games. Did he beat Battletoads?
