Mainstream Media Suggests Games to Play with the Family

Posted by | November 25, 2011

Every now and then, I like to strip off the power armor and set aside the pulse rifle so I can infiltrate the mainstream media’s coverage of video gaming. How does the rest of the world see our little hobby? What’s going through the mind of the Your Parents demographic when it comes to gaming? Here’s an article straight from the off-white and beige carpeted warrens of the darkest mainstream about games the whole family can play. MSNBC has the story.

Odd, not a single mention of Skylanders.

Oh good gods, it burns! Possibly the only game worth playing with family and friends in there is the Ratchet & Clank.

Do they not know what’s currently available and actually has some sort of cultural context — or is it all going to be watered-down wannabe party games with no content and no life for people who read MSNBC?

Welcome to the wonderful world of mainstream reporting, Helvetica. This article is from MSNBC’s video game columnist, by the way. This is the mainstream’s version of an informed opinion.

Ever wonder why I’m so cynical all the time?
