League of Legends is a MOBA style game of champions and minions competing for domination of a battle arena. The game was designed with a focus on professional play, and Riot Games has already sponsored several pro games. Now, they’re looking to take League of Legends to the next level with their Championship Series, a global league of professional teams. Even better, they’re going to pay the players. Wow. Check out the announcement video in the article. League of Legends has the story.

The league will also broadcast the games in HD for anyone to watch, so yay for that. Hunting down streams and swapping formats from a world away was always a pain. Hopefully this Championship Series will help prove gaming as a worthy pro sport of its own.
