Microsoft has been pushing hard on their Kinect motion control system for the Xbox 360, and now they’re planning to bring the hardware to the PC. Running the Kinect on a computer provides a new set of challenges for the developer, mostly in that PC gamers seldom ride their keyboards from six feet away. To solve this, Microsoft has announced the system will offer a “near mode” that allows the Kinect to track from as close as two feet. Given Microsoft’s efforts to open the Kinect hardware to the community, a version that runs on PC could be a killer ap for the device. Who knows what people are going to do with this thing? Gamespot has the story.
