Activision Blizzard CEO Says Low-Quality Games Responsible for Gaming Market Downturn

Posted by | August 3, 2012

Or at least, partly responsible. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick was talking about the video game industry after Blizzard’s latest investors call. Sales are down all across the industry, not least of all at Blizzard. Although Kotick also mentioned other causes, such as the weak economy, he also made it clear that much of the problem could be laid at the feet of game developers who put out, as the article says, “less than adequate” games. Is he right about recent game releases? GamesIndustry has the story.

There are a lot of high-powered games that really aren’t anything more than Game Product Q1/2012, the next measured dose of the same old thing. Not very inspiring. There are have been some interesting games come along recently, so maybe it evens out.
