Second Life used to be a big thing. A whole virtual reality that gave users perfect freedom to build and create, who wouldn’t love that? The game’s currency even traded in real-world terms, and hard cash millionaires were minted from virtual funbucks. Then, it sort of fell apart. What happened to Second Life, and what’s changing in this weird little sandbox? GamesIndustry has the story.
Second Life is a fascination of mine. It could have been a revolution, a for-real virtual world that changed the way people connected, communicated, and even did business. Sadly, it was horribly inefficient, slow, and hard to use.
One of these days, I’m going to build my own version, and get it right.
