As Guild Wars 2 continues the apparently long road towards the expansion Heart of Throrns things keep changing in the game world. The hype is real and the preorders have already been announced—we even had a Revenant, a new class coming with the expansion, appear in the main social hub of the game. The problem? It taking ArenaNet, developer of GW2, far too long to release information about what’s in the expansion.

This problem led to a great deal of player frustration during the announcement of the preorder and it continues to grate on the nerves of both media and community.

The GW2 community right now relies heavily on dataminers such as that_shaman from Reddit to reveal what ArenaNet has not. Leaks have been leading the way in information about HoT for the past few months.

In any sense of marketing and information leadership this has been a bizarre ride. So far we know very little about the elite specializations that will change the way existing players play, we know extremely little about the actual extent of new maps that will be added, and having entire weeks of information seemingly dedicated to esports instead of expansion makes the absence hollow.

There are a total of 8 classes in the game but we only know details about Guardian, Necromancer, and Mesmer. We have hints and allegations as to what’s happening with Ranger and Engineer (and recent data leaks for Engineers) but that’s it.

Release information on the new legendaries already!

I have personally been sitting on all the crafting materials to make the Guild Wars 2 legendary weapon Bolt (including the precursor weapon, Zap.) I do not want to make it until I know what legendary weapons will be added in Heart of Thorns because I might want one of them.

ArenaNet has also told us that we will be able to craft our own precursors in HoT. This is welcome because making a legendary weapon is not just a huge, wild grind—it has a large random (RNG) component with the need to get a precursor that has a very rare drop. Of course, you can purchase a precursor from someone else for 500 – 1,000g, but even that may take forever to earn.

Putting together a legendary is an ordeal and having new ones coming up on the horizon means that people like me are sitting on crafting materials just waiting for that information before moving forward.

It’s been months since the announcement that new legendaries would appear and it’s been months I’ve been sitting on these crafting materials.

While this is not the only problem with the way Heart of Thorns is approaching, it is a symptom of the low trickle of information that ArenaNet has been feeding the playerbase. This is especially problematic given that the preorder is already up.
