Posted by | August 30, 2012

The Pyro is perhaps one of the most witty—and misunderstood (it’s the mask)—characters in the Team Fortress 2 mythos. Arienne Keith is your standard casual player for online and MMO games and she prefers the class because of the rapid fire weapon, and the ability to light people on fire.

League of Legends Wins Domain Name Battle Against Porn Site

Posted by | August 22, 2012

The insanely popular battle arena game League of Legends has been fighting a battle in the world wide web. The opponent in this match was LeagueofLegends.co, note the missing “m” on the end of that URL. Gamers who mistyped the address for LeagueofLegends.com would end up on the .co site, which just happened to be full of porn. Fortunately, League of Legends was successful in their fight, and now controls the .co version of their domain as well. Their next target? LeagueofLegendsPorn.com. Rule 34 is a harsh mistress. Fusible has the story.

Especially worrying, the Gamescom presentation of The Walking Dead shooter didn’t feature hands-on play, or even more than screenshots. There’s also word that co-op play is out. Check out this article discussing the concerns about this upcoming shooter. IGN has the story.

Diablo 3 Attempts to Solve Endgame Problem by Adding 100 More Levels

Posted by | August 20, 2012

Not more content, just more character levels. This new approach toward adding an endgame to the popular, but struggling action grindfest Diablo 3 is called the Paragon system. Under this system, characters will be able to earn up to 100 Paragon levels after reaching level 60 of the old, boring, outdated basic system. These Paragon levels will give characters bigger stats and built-in Magic Find. The Magic Find stat is especially useful, since that improves the quality of loot drops from monsters, and feeds directly into Blizzard’s real money auction house. Kotaku has the story.

Let’s Talk Indie Game Development with NimbleBit

Posted by | August 20, 2012

NimbleBit is a small game developer who recently found success with the game Tiny Tower. That’s not the studio’s first game, of course, with a number of small games like Pocket Frogs and Scoops under their belt. What makes this studio most interesting, however, is that they’re at the center of the Great Zynga Rip-Off, where the massive Facebook game company has cloned Tiny Tower into their own image. NimbleBit went public with their feelings on the matter, and word spread across the internet. How does a small indie studio compete in this industry against lumbering megaliths like Zynga? Develop has the story.
